Airline: Air France-KLM Group
Region of operation: Europe / Global
Fleet Size: c.600 aircraft
Priority: Fuel tender management & SAF integration
The Air France-KLM Group is one of the largest airline groups in Europe, comprising Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Transavia France, Transavia Netherlands, KLM Cityhopper, HOP! and Martinair.
It serves 320+ destinations across 100 countries through its major hubs at Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol airports. In 2025, the group carried over 100 million passengers.
"The Fuel Tender Module has transformed the way we manage fuel procurement. What used to be a labor-intensive process of consolidating bids from multiple formats is now centralized and largely automated — freeing our team to focus on analysis and decision-making rather than data handling."

Managing complexity in fuel tenders
As a major international airline group, Air France-KLM has complex fuel procurement processes. Its fuel tender process had grown increasingly difficult to manage, due to several interconnected pressures:
- Fragmented supplier inputs. Suppliers submitted bids in multiple formats — Excel, PDF and others — requiring significant manual effort to consolidate and validate before any meaningful analysis could begin.
- Limited bid comparability. Differences in pricing structures and contract terms made it genuinely difficult to compare supplier offers on a like-for-like basis.
- SAF challenges. The introduction of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) added a new layer of complexity, requiring transparent pricing and dedicated evaluation within the tender process.
- Legacy Excel processes. Workflows relied heavily on manual spreadsheet analysis, creating inefficiencies and an inherent risk of error at scale.
Transforming fuel procurement
for the SAF era
The Air France-KLM Group implemented our Fuel Tender Module, purpose-built to streamline and modernize fuel procurement. Key features include:
- Centralized tender management and improved data normalization.
- Automated data handling.
- Integrated SAF components, allowing for SAF analysis within tender bids.
These features have brought significant benefits to the airline group, including:
Enhanced decision making and efficiency gains
- Faster evaluation and decision-making, with less time lost to data preparation.
- Improved ability to evaluate SAF-related costs and model different scenarios.
- Supports sustainability-aligned procurement decisions within the existing tender workflow.
Greater accuracy and improved cost visibility
- Automated data handling and standardized bid analysis reduces the risk of errors in supplier comparisons
- Greater transparency across suppliers, pricing elements, and contract structures.
Enhanced collaboration and user adoption
- A centralized platform enables better coordination across procurement and finance teams and improved visibility of tender data and evaluation results.
"The SAF functionality has been a real step forward for us. Having that built directly into the tender workflow means we can evaluate SAF scenarios properly — without it becoming a separate, manual exercise on the side."

Embracing AI and further improvements
Building on the success of the Fuel Tender Module, Air France-KLM is exploring further enhancements to its procurement processes, including:
- AI capabilities to automate the process of reading and interpreting bids across all formats
- Continued development of SAF cost modeling and reporting within the platform.
"We chose Skymetrix because it was built around how fuel procurement actually works. The platform understood the nuances of tender management — the different supplier formats, the SAF requirements, the need for accurate comparisons — in a way that generic tools simply don't.
That domain expertise, combined with a solution our team found genuinely easy to use, made it the clear choice."
