Airline: Widerøe
Region of operation: Scandinavia
Fleet Size: c.50 aircraft
Priority: Fuel management — invoice verification, emissions & SAF
Widerøe is Scandinavia’s largest regional airline, operating an extensive network that connects remote communities across Norway and beyond.
As a provider of essential public transport, Widerøe’s flights play a significant role in supporting businesses, healthcare, education, tourism, and culture in Norway.
“We chose Skymetrix because they were the clear leaders in this field, offering a unique platform tailored for fuel, which could handle insight into fuel cost, as well as invoice control and ETS reporting.”

Gaining more control over fuel
Widerøe began its partnership with Skymetrix at the end of 2022, implementing our fuel management solution. The team wanted to gain more control over fuel, which was one of their biggest operating costs, and to get greater insight into the different cost components.
Catching pricing discrepancies automatically
In early 2025, Widerøe added the Accounting module and automated the fuel invoice verification process.
Our fuel management platform uses smart multi-way matching to automatically reconcile supplier invoices against contracts and operational uplift data, flagging any pricing discrepancies before payment is made.
As a result, Widerøe now has:
- greater confidence in invoice accuracy and can identify pricing variances before invoices are approved for payment
- eliminated the need for manual spot checks, freeing up meaningful time for the team every month
- one-click period closing reports and automated accruals, which have streamlined month-end, with data transmitted directly to the ERP system.
“The automated invoice verification has brought huge benefits. We are catching fuel pricing variances we simply would not have identified before, and that is directly protecting our bottom line.”

Improving sustainability reporting
In the Skymetrix platform, the same fuel data that underpins invoice verification also feeds directly into Widerøe’s emissions reporting — a connection that has made a real difference for the team.
Widerøe adopted our Emissions and SAF modules to make their sustainability reporting processes more efficient and less manual, using actual fuel and flight data to meet their obligations under schemes including EU ETS, CORSIA and ReFuelEU.
Rather than pulling data together by hand, the team can now run emissions and ReFuelEU reports from within the platform, with the data already in place.
“The SAF module handles the additional complexity around sustainable fuel (different pricing, contracts and reporting) so we can ensure we are compliant and meeting our SAF commitments, without adding to our administrative workload.”
