“We now have centralized data from multiple sources within one platform, which has significantly improved data quality
to mitigate wrong billing.”
Karl Lim, VP Procurement and Insurance at Royal Brunei Airlines
Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd (RB) is the latest airline to implement Skymetrix and start to transform its fuel management process. RB wanted a centralized and automated fuel management system which could help it improve its efficiency around data collection, accounting, and workflow management.
Karl Lim, VP Procurement and Insurance at RB explains what the drawbacks were with the airline’s previous system: “We were using the in-house fuel system over the years to manually input fuel receipts and fuel invoices, and generate fuel statistics to calculate the monthly closing and fuel budget. The functions in this system were quite limited and it was difficult to add new features. Also, with this manual process, we were concerned about the data integrity; hence we needed a new fuel system.”
Having chosen Skymetrix platform last year, phase one of the project has recently been completed. This includes the introduction of software and new business processes that will make it easier and quicker for RB to:
- plan fuel demand and budgets
- run fuel tenders
- collect fuel operations data
- manage fuel contracts.
Phase two will focus on solutions to improve invoicing and payments, emissions reporting, and the monitoring of KPIs through advanced analytics.
Karl Lim at RB gave his assessment of how the project has gone so far: “We have established a great working relationship with the Skymetrix team and have been able to implement their system successfully. We now have centralized data from multiple sources within one platform, which has significantly improved data quality to mitigate wrong billing. We have also been able to streamline many fuel management processes, including the management of fuel contracts, and we will soon be adopting digital invoicing using the industry recognised standard file format.”
Michael Charalambous, Chief Commercial Officer for Skymetrix, said: “This implementation has been incredibly smooth and that is down to hard work, commitment, and great communication on both sides. So far, all meetings and support have been online, due to the pandemic travel restrictions, yet this hasn’t hampered progress.
“The team at RB have been quick to learn and adapt to the new system and the change in business processes. With the help of our experts, RB’s end users completed User Acceptance Testing quickly and easily, and the airline’s IT team were extremely responsive when there were issues. As a result, the project hit all the target deadlines.”
